In Memory of Boris Marte

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Boris Marte (1964–2026), long-time CEO of the ERSTE Foundation, a visionary thinker, and a dedicated advocate and supporter of civil society and the role of culture and art in fostering a more inclusive and critical public sphere. Boris initiated the Igor Zabel Award for Culture and Theory—which marks its 10th edition this year—and co-founded the Igor Zabel Association for Culture and Theory. He will be deeply missed.
