On Contemporaneity of Contemporary Art: Šum #10.1

28.11.2018

presentation of Šum #10.1 journal and discussion
28 November, 18:00, Museum of Contemporary Art Metelkova, Ljubljana

We invite you to the presentation of the thematic section of the new Šum journal issue entitled “/…/ gradually the idea of ‘contemporary art’ was formed”, dedicated to the establishment of the concept of contemporary art in Slovenia. The presentation will be followed by two lectures: Kaja Kraner will share several concepts of the contemporaneity of contemporary art and their common characteristics and Sergej Kapus will talk on how Igor Zabel defined contemporary art.

Zabel is also the author of the quote in the title of the thematic section, which offers a few  points of entry and partial views on the context in which the concept of contemporary art was established, especially at the local level. The thematic section does not answer the question of what contemporary art is, but chronologically places itself at two extreme points: at the turn of the 1990s and in the period when the concept of post-contemporaneity was formed.

Writers: Maruša Kocjančič, Kaja Kraner, Domen Ograjenšek, Hana Ostan Ožbolt
Section edited by: Kaja Kraner

This event is organized by: Šum journal in collaboration with the Igor Zabel Association, MG+MSUM and Boks Gallery Association.
