Mladen Stilinović (1947–2016)

Mladen Stilinović, one of the key figures of conceptual and contemporary art in Croatia, died last night after battling a serious illness.

Igor Zabel, with whom they collaborated on many occassions, wrote in his text "A Short Walk through Mladen Stilinović's Four Rooms": "Stilinović's art, however, is not sociology. It is primarily art, but art that is aware of its own conditions and determinants. The artist does not close his eyes on the reality around him - on his own reality. And it is by responding to this reality, to its multiple contradictions and dilemmas, that he is able to recover the poetic, the beautiful, even the sublime."
